Cosmetology is the youngest field of study offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Jagiellonian University Medical College – as second-degree master studies, it was launched in 2010 and is held in Polish*. The field of study combines the areas of education in the field of medical sciences, health sciences and physical culture sciences.

4-semester studies are conducted as full-time and part-time studies. Part-time studies are carried out in the so-called weekend trips (Saturdays-Sundays).

The study program includes compulsory and optional subjects. Classes are held on a semester basis. Individual subjects end in accordance with the study program – an exam, a graded test or a credit. Each subject is assigned a specific number of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) points. To complete your studies, you must collect at least 120 ECTS points and complete a master’s thesis and pass the master’s examination.

Pursuant to resolution No. 167/2019 of the Presidium of the Polish Accreditation Committee of April 11, 2019, the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medium Faculty of Pharmacy in Krakow – the field of cosmetology at the level of second-cycle studies with a general academic profile received a positive assessment for a period of 5 years.

Graduate profile

The graduate should have advanced general knowledge in the field of health, biological and social sciences and advanced detailed knowledge about cosmetics and substances used to produce cosmetics, technology of cosmetic products, metabolism and effects of cosmetics and their proper use; demonstrate knowledge of methods and techniques for testing cosmetic and medicinal raw materials and preparations in chemical and toxicological terms in order to assess their quality.

The graduate should be prepared to: plan a cosmetic treatment and use cosmetics in accordance with the diagnosis; performing cosmetic, care and beautification treatments, taking into account indications and contraindications; reading the composition of the cosmetic and determining its use; close cooperation with a dermatologist in the care of affected skin and in the scope of prescribed treatments.

The graduate should be prepared to cooperate in the process of registering cosmetics, cooperate with companies producing cosmetic preparations, manage teams of cosmetologists and supervise the use of cosmetics and cosmetic techniques. He should be prepared for systematic professional development and increasing the level of knowledge.

The studies prepare the graduate to work in institutions promoting health and beauty, e.g. Wellness Centers, SPA salons, beauty salons, as well as in the cosmetics industry and analytical laboratories of research and industrial units.
