We are pleased to announce the completion of an international internship funded by the Teaching-Engagement-Development program.

On March 15–20, 2026, staff members of the Department of Experimental Dermatology and Cosmetology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Jagiellonian University Medical College—Dr. hab. Agnieszka Gunia-Krzyżak and Dr. Dorota Żelaszczyk—visited the School of Cosmetic Science at Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

The visit was coordinated on behalf of the host institution by Prof. Nattaya Lourith. During the stay, the participants became familiar with the cosmetology curriculum, observed practical classes, and toured the university’s pilot cosmetic production facility as well as a pilot plant for obtaining traditional Thai medicine products from medicinal plants. They also delivered lectures covering, among others, legal regulations concerning cosmetics in the European Union, innovation and intellectual property protection in cosmetology, and the search for melanogenesis inhibitors for use in cosmetic products.

The participants were highly impressed by the advanced level of education in cosmetology, the available equipment, and the projects carried out by students, including projects involving the complete development of cosmetic products, some of which were even available for purchase at the university store at a special “Inno store” stand.

The visit was a continuation of previously established cooperation between the Department of Experimental Dermatology and Cosmetology of the Jagiellonian University Medical College and the School of Cosmetic Science at Mae Fah Luang University. We believe that the exchange of experience between these two institutions will continue in the future and will contribute to the internationalization of research and teaching activities at the Jagiellonian University Medical College.

On February 5–7, the 22nd Multidisciplinary Academy of Dermatology and Allergology “Sea of Inspiration” was held in Gdańsk.

During the conference, MSc Ewelina Szendzielorz from our Department of Experimental Dermatology and Cosmetology presented an abstract entitled: “Do ingredients in trichological shampoos labeled as ‘active’ against hair loss वास्तव actually demonstrate such effects in light of scientific research?”, referring to her doctoral dissertation supervised by Prof. Radosław Śpiewak, submitted for review in December 2025.

The research addresses the current issue of verifying the declared effects of cosmetic ingredients in the context of scientific evidence, aligning with the concept of evidence-based cosmetology.

The work was distinguished by the Scientific Council of the event and received first place in the “Original Research” category.

Congratulations on this achievement!

In January 2026, an event entitled “January with a Trichologist” was held at the Department of Experimental Dermatology and Cosmetology of the Jagiellonian University Medical College.

We invited individuals struggling with excessive hair loss, alopecia, dandruff, or scalp itching to attend free consultations with a trichologist. The consultations were conducted by a trichologist and staff member of the department, MSc Ewelina Szendzielorz.

During the consultations, a comprehensive interview was carried out, along with a trichoscopic examination to determine the causes of the problem and its stage of progression. All participants received personalized care and supplementation recommendations.

The event attracted great interest and will be held on a regular basis.

White Sunday at the Department of Experimental Dermatology and Cosmetology!

Preventive campaign “Get to Know Your Moles” – June 13, 2021

under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Jagiellonian University Medical College, Prof. Dr. hab. Jacek Sapa

We invite employees of the Faculty of Pharmacy to take part in a free dermatoscopic examination, which will be performed by a dermatologist, Dr. Piotr Sznelewski.

The campaign aims at the early detection of melanoma and precancerous moles. Melanoma is one of the most aggressive cancers, and the mortality rate for this disease in Poland is as high as 42%. However, when detected early, melanoma is completely curable!

How to prepare for the examination?

  1. The examination is safe, painless, and does not require any special preparation.
  2. Do not apply any cosmetics to the skin before the examination.
  3. In accordance with melanoma prevention guidelines, the doctor will examine the entire surface of the body, including hard-to-reach areas such as the scalp, feet, interdigital spaces, or areas that the individual cannot easily see themselves (e.g., the back). Therefore, it is necessary for the patient to undress to their underwear (swim trunks or a two-piece swimsuit are also acceptable).
  4. The genital area will be examined only at the patient’s request; therefore, we ask you to examine this area yourself in advance and report any concerning moles to the doctor.
  5. To ensure comfort and privacy, the examination will take place in the facilities of the Department of Experimental Dermatology and Cosmetology without access to unauthorized persons.
  6. No personal data will be collected during the examination; if necessary, the patient will receive a named referral for further dermatological or oncological diagnostics.
