We are proud to announce that the Jagiellonian University has once again been included in the prestigious group of the world’s best higher education institutions in the latest edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2025, also known as the Shanghai Ranking. Our university was ranked in the 501-600 bracket, maintaining its position as one of the leading higher education institutions in Poland.
The Shanghai Ranking, published since 2003, is one of the oldest and most respected academic rankings in the world. Its methodology focuses on assessing the scientific and research potential of universities based on objective indicators. The evaluation criteria include the number of alumni and staff who have won a Nobel Prize or Fields Medal, the number of highly cited researchers, and the number of publications in top journals such as “Nature” and “Science.”
This year’s edition features seven Polish universities. Alongside the Jagiellonian University, the highest-ranked Polish institution was the University of Warsaw (401-500 bracket). The top of the global ranking remains unchanged, led by top American universities: Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
