Dean on Potential Study Shortening: Concerned about Education Quality

In light of the emerging discussions concerning the potential shortening of the Master’s degree program in Pharmacy, the Dean of our Faculty, Professor Marcin Kołaczkowski, has voiced his opinion on the matter, giving an extensive interview to the rynekzdrowia.pl portal.

Professor Kołaczkowski emphasizes that although the intention behind the changes may be a desire to respond to the needs of the labour market, a hasty shortening of the study program, without thorough analysis and appropriate adjustment of the curriculum, could lead to the opposite of the intended outcome. The Dean points out the risk of lowering the quality of education and, consequently, decreasing the attractiveness of the pharmacist profession.

In the interview for rynekzdrowia.pl, Professor Kołaczkowski stresses that the current study program is already intensive and at a high level, and its shortening could lead to excessive compression of the material, which would negatively impact the knowledge acquisition and practical skills of students. Furthermore, the Dean draws attention to the lack of transparency in the work on the draft changes, the uncertainty of universities regarding the upcoming requirements, the not fully thought-out shortening of studies, and the risk of marginalizing the key competences of graduates.
