Medic’s Communication Toolkit: free in-person training for JUMC students

We invite you to participate in a series of three in-person training sessions, supporting effective communication and the art of patient contact.

Are you entering the medical job market soon, where you will have contact with patients? Prepare for this moment and improve your soft skills, such as: effective communication, the art of patient contact, assertiveness, and dealing with difficult situations in workplace relationships.

Section for Didactics and Academic Careers CM invites you to a series of three in-person, free training and workshop modules, which will take place on: 13.11, 27.11 and 4.12 (Thursdays), from 16:00 to 19:00 at the Didactic and Congress Centre WL at ul. św. Łazarza 16 in Krakow, in room 215.

MODULE I: THE SATISFIED PATIENT – PATIENT CONTACT AND CREATING POSITIVE EXPERIENCES WITH THE MEDICAL FACILITY (180 minutes):

  • Good and bad practices in patient contact. Group work and discussion.

  • Principles of professional contact with patients.

  • The modern patient and their expectations. Patient typology and methods of contact with different types of patients.

  • Building a positive first impression. Components of a first impression.

MODULE II: FUNDAMENTALS OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH THE PATIENT (180 minutes):

  • The role of appropriate questions and their types. Exercise and presentation.

  • The essence of active listening, empathy, and paraphrasing. Exercises and simulations.

  • The role of non-verbal communication. Mini-lecture.

  • Communication styles. Self-diagnosis. Strengths and weaknesses.

MODULE III: ASSERTIVE COPING IN DIFFICULT SITUATIONS AND CONFLICTS WITH THE PATIENT (180 minutes):

  • A bank of difficult situations with patients.

  • Introduction to assertiveness. Assertiveness map.

  • Assertive techniques for dealing with difficult situations with patients:
    – broken record technique,
    – four-step procedure for setting boundaries,
    – assertive refusal.

  • Conflict resolution. Conflict wheel.

  • Conflict resolution styles in the realities of healthcare.

The training will be conducted by the company “Strefa Rozwoju Katarzyna Zawodny-Grociak”.

Each participant will receive training materials, and those who participate in all three parts of the Academy will receive a personal certificate of completion.
