On October 9th, the names of the three winners of this year’s National Science Center (NCN) Award were announced at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology in Krakow.
Two scientists from the Jagiellonian University are among the three researchers who received the NCN Award for outstanding achievements. Wiktor Lewandowski, Marcin Magierowski and Błażej Skrzypulec received the 2024 NCN Award for the greatest scientific achievement. The award is granted to young researchers working in Polish research centers. The ceremony took place on October 9 in Krakow.
The NCN Award is the most prestigious distinction for researchers up to 12 years after receiving their doctorate, conducting basic research. The most important criterion used by the committee evaluating the candidates’ achievements is their scientific excellence and international recognition.
The award is granted in three groups of disciplines – humanities, social sciences and arts, life sciences, and physical sciences and engineering. Over 3,700 researchers had the right to nominate candidates for the Award in this edition. 183 submissions were received, including 150 candidates. By the decision of the committee, composed of members of the Council and the director of the NCN, the awards were given to researchers working in Krakow and Warsaw.
Dr hab. Wiktor Lewandowski is a chemist, dealing with photonics and materials chemistry, he is a professor at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Warsaw. He received an award in the area of physical sciences and engineering. Prof. Marcin Magierowski’s research includes physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and gastroenterology. A researcher from the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow was awarded the NCN Prize in life sciences. Winner of the distinction in the field of humanities, social sciences and arts, Dr hab. Błażej Skrzypulec is a philosopher, professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University, dealing with the philosophy of perception.
