Medical Communication Toolkit 2026: free on-site training for UJ CM students

We invite you to participate in a series of three on-site training sessions supporting effective communication and the art of patient contact.

Are you soon entering the medical labor market where you will have contact with patients? Prepare for this moment and improve your soft skills, such as: effective communication, the art of patient contact, assertiveness, and dealing with difficult situations in workplace relationships.

The Section for Didactics and Academic Careers of the Medical College invites you to the next series of three on-site, free training and workshop modules, which will take place on: April 9, 16, and 27 (Thursdays), from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM in Collegium Nowodworskiego, 12 St. Anne’s Street, in the Zodiacal Room (basement).

MODULE I: SATISFIED PATIENT – CONTACT WITH THE PATIENT AND CREATING THEIR POSITIVE EXPERIENCES WITH THE MEDICAL FACILITY (180 minutes):

  • Good and bad practices in patient contact. Group work and discussion.

  • Principles of professional contact with patients.

  • The modern patient and their expectations. Typology of patients and ways of communicating with particular types of patients.

  • Building a positive first impression. Components of the first impression.

MODULE II: FUNDAMENTALS OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH THE PATIENT (180 minutes):

  • The role of appropriate questions and their types. Exercise and presentation.

  • The essence of active listening, empathy, and paraphrasing. Exercises and simulations.

  • The role of non-verbal communication. Mini-lecture.

  • Communication styles. Self-diagnosis. Strengths and weaknesses.

MODULE III: ASSERTIVE COPING IN DIFFICULT SITUATIONS AND CONFLICTS WITH THE PATIENT (180 minutes):

  • Bank of difficult situations with a patient.

  • Introduction to assertiveness. Assertiveness map.

  • Assertive techniques for dealing with difficult situations with a patient:
    – broken record technique,
    – four-step boundary setting procedure,
    – assertive refusal.

  • Conflict resolution. Wheel of conflict.

  • Conflict resolution styles in the realities of healthcare.

The training sessions will be conducted by the company “Strefa Rozwoju Katarzyna Zawodny-Grociak”.

Each participant will receive training materials, and those who participate in all three parts of the Academy will receive a personalized certificate of completion.
