The Medical Research Agency (ABM) has announced the results of the TRANSMED I competition for the development of research and development projects in the field of translational medicine. Two research projects developed by scientists from the Jagiellonian University Medical College (UJ CM) – Prof. Krzysztof Kamiński and Prof. Przemysław Błyszczuk – have received recommendations for funding under this call. The funds awarded to the scholars will enable research of significant importance for clinical practice and the improvement of patient health.
A consortium led by the Jagiellonian University Medical College achieved great success, with Prof. Krzysztof Kamiński, PhD, from the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry of our Faculty, serving as the leader and principal investigator. The awarded project, titled “Enhancement of glutamate uptake as a novel approach of neurodegenerative disorders pharmacotherapy – preclinical proof of concept,” received funding of nearly PLN 12 million. The project will be implemented in a prestigious consortium, which, alongside UJ CM, includes the Witold Chodźko Institute of Rural Medicine in Lublin and the Maj Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
In parallel, funding was also granted to a project led by Prof. Przemysław Błyszczuk. In total, the projects involving UJ CM researchers awarded in this competition (nearly PLN 12 million for Prof. Kamiński and funding for the second project) received support totaling nearly PLN 24 million. This success was highlighted by Prof. Maciej Małecki, PhD, Vice-Rector of the Jagiellonian University for the Medical College:
“For years, we have been consistently building the research potential of UJ CM, combining high-quality basic research with its practical application in medicine. We implement advanced projects in areas such as lifestyle diseases, regenerative medicine, and pharmacy, and we develop modern diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. A translational approach plays an important role for us, allowing for a faster translation of laboratory results into concrete clinical solutions. The funding obtained is not only a distinction for our teams but also a real opportunity for further research development.”
We sincerely congratulate Prof. Krzysztof Kamiński and Prof. Przemysław Błyszczuk on these outstanding achievements! We wish both researchers productive work and further successes that will translate into improvements in patient health.
