Gold Medal in Geneva for Innovative Research from the our Faculty

On March 11–15, 2026, the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions was held in Geneva. It is one of the most important global events dedicated to innovation and the protection of intellectual property. This year’s edition featured over a thousand inventions from dozens of countries, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase the achievements of universities, research institutes, and innovative enterprises.

Representatives of the Jagiellonian University Medical College (UJ CM) Faculty of Pharmacy achieved tremendous success at the exhibition. The solution titled “Deuterated functionalized α-alanine derivatives, particularly for the treatment of neurological diseases,” presented by Dr. Marcin Jakubiec, was highly praised by the international jury. The project brought two prestigious accolades to our university’s scientists:

  • A Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2026,

  • A Special Award granted by the National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies (IMT Bucharest, Romania).

The award-winning research focuses on innovative modified amino acid derivatives that could be widely applied in the future treatment of neurological diseases and selected psychiatric disorders. The invention was developed by a research team at the UJ CM Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, led by Prof. Krzysztof Kamiński.

It is worth noting that this is not the first distinction Dr. Jakubiec has received for his work on this groundbreaking solution. As early as February 2024, the researcher was among the five main prize winners of the 14th National Student-Inventor Competition.

This is a great distinction for our team and further proof of the high scientific and applicative value of our research, as well as its importance for the development of new therapies for neurological diseases,” says Prof. Krzysztof Kamiński. “I congratulate Dr. Jakubiec and Dr. Michał Abram. This is our shared success.
